Ministry in Rwanda (July 2019)

SfK has a member of its Missional Business Community in Rwanda. It is Nanuri Limited which as a holding company now operates Nanuri Medical Center, Nanuri Guest House and also 2 & 5 Christian Academy.

Nanuri is a mission community consisting of resident members and several volunteers who serve on and off on either short term or long term. The following members are the resident members.

Nanuri Medical Center aims to serve the patients with the internal medicine and pediatrics under the leadership of a medical doctor couple: Dr. Park, the physician and Dr. Baek, the pediatrician. They went into operations in March so it is still going through the early learning curve and it is premature to establish the sustainability. SfK helped secure some institutional clients for their quality medical services. SfK also led a devotion time with the staff of Medical Center, which takes place twice a week. It is our prayer that they will develop an exemplary missional practice model in the tough health care industry.

Nanuri Guest House has 18 rooms with excellent hardware and quality furnishings. Moreover, they intend to provide excellent services un-parallel to any similar facilities available in town. Thus, there is no doubt that this guest house will also become popular in the City of Kigali.

Nanuri also operates 2 & 5 Christian Academy in collaboration with a Christian denomination. After several years of operations, it now has more than 200 students from K to 6, and the first graduates will take the national exam, a critical stepping stone towards establishing an outstanding Christian education institution in the City of Kigali.

Sfk helped in the area of administrative and financial management. Click here to see a video clip showing how 2 & 5 Christian Academy operates.

We pray that Nanuri businesses will adopt and implement the spirit of missional business as God defined and embedded originally in business as an effective channel of serving people with common good.

SfK spent time with Mr. Ryu who completed SfK's boot camp training in Chiang Mai in 2017. He has since established Kijamii Table, an African cafe restaurant in Kigali, Rwanda. It is a social enterprise and has been in operation for about one year. It still is in the process of figuring out how to achieve operational sustainability while not compromising on empowering young people. Its unique focus on providing African foods while others are trying to do business with foreign foods was somewhat peculiar, but it may be more suitable to establish African sustainability by Africans. It is our prayer that Kijamii Table become sustainable and expand into other nations.

Rwanda remains an impressive developing nation as a reformation model in Africa. May it continue its track record. - Jeffrey
