A Closer Look at James 1:5

The following discussion comes from the Trinity Study Center website's (www.trinitystudycenter.com) online Bible studies and resources.

James is writing a pastoral letter to encourage those who are facing trials. He is really speaking to all of us because we are all facing various trials in this broken, sinful world. James wants them to see that all their trials, large and small, are testing their trust in the Triune God.

As we go through trials we are faced with the choice to live as if God is good, active, and present or to act as if He isn't hearing us, caring about us, and able to bring good out of this struggle. James reminds his readers in the first paragraph of his letter that we can trust that our trials will add up to joy because as we count on God through them our confidence in Him is strengthened and God will bring us to completion through them. He will make us truly perfect, able perfectly to receive His life and love for us. We will be filled with His fullness, lacking in nothing.

When we are in the midst of some difficulty, it can be hard to see beyond the immediate circumstances. James encourages his readers to go through their trials looking at the endpoint, where all of one's life is going. God is taking us to the point of being "perfect and complete". Nothing less. This is what these present struggles will add up to as we count on Him to be at work in our lives.

Ministry Updates

1. SfK Korea has completed its capital investment in Hesed Cambodia. The increase in capital will help finance the construction of a $1.3 million palm sugar automated production facility. Recently, Hesed Cambodia has completed the construction of a church in front of a palm sugar manufacturing plant to be built.
Please pray that Hesed Cambodia will continue its efforts to transforming several villages where it operates holistically through three lines of business in which it is engaged: coffee, palm sugar and organic food distribution.

2. SfK MBA completed its Boot Camp Training in Arusha, Tanzania in July. Through this training, SfK Tanzania has identified a couple of potential missional businesses and secured an opportunity to collaborate with a local church in expanding the BAM movement in Tanzania and East Africa. 3. SfK spent time with the leadership of Nanuri Limited, a member of SfK Missional Business Community, which operates a medical center, a guest house and a Christian academy in Kigali, Rwanda. Please pray that Nanuri leadership will draw discernment and wisdom from God in deliberating and making decisions on important business issues. Please click here to read a blogpost on this visit.

4. SfK spent time with the leadership of Karen Huduma, a missional business that SfK is supporting, in Nairobi, Kenya. Karen Huduma operates two lines of business including an auto repair business through which Karen Huduma empowers young people from Kibera, the largest urban slum in Africa. Please pray that the transforming power of this business will only be magnified further as the business honors God in all it does. Please click here to read more about this visit.

5. A Christian-operated business in a South Asia nation where Christians are often persecuted has applied to be a member of the SfK Missional Business Community. SfK and this business have completed the initial screening process and we are in agreement towards the next step. Please pray that this new found relationship will receive God's favor to develop into an edifying relationship.

Upcoming Events & Prayer Requests

Aug. 19-30, 2019: SfK MBA Boot Camp Training (4th in 2019) will take place in Kathmandu, Nepal. Please pray that this training will equip ordinary business people into powerful missional entrepreneurs in advancing the Kingdom of God in Nepal.

Hesed Global, the missional business trading arm of SfK Ministries, has its U.S. subsidiary under establishment as a California corporation. Its President has been named and its board of directors has been formed. Please pray that God will bless these new businesses to be a blessing to many missional businesses around the world.

Sept. 19-22, 2019: BAM Conference will be held at Bethel Church in Irvine, California. SfK will participate in the conference with lectures and consulting services for the church's BAM Committee. Please pray that this Conference will help draw more people of God to the Business As Mission movement and various meetings will bear fruit pleasing to God.

Sept. 27-28, 2019: SfK Life face to face Board Meeting will take place in Southern California. Please pray that this meeting will review what the Lord has been doing and discern what He has in store for SfK Ministries in the years to come.

Sept. 9-12, 2019: KBM Global Gathering will be held in Mt. Sorak, Korea. Please pray that the participants will witness how God's Kingdom is advancing through the missional businesses and learn from each other.

Oct. 7-18, 2019: SfK MBA Boot Camp Training (5th and the last in 2019) will take place in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Please pray that this third annual event held in Chiang Mai may draw many Kingdom business people to be properly equipped to run missional businesses effectively in God's sight.

Oct. 28-30, 2019: KAGMA (Korean American Global Mission Association)will hold its annual gathering in Southern California. SfK will participate in this event. Please pray that the event will draw many Christians to creative approaches in mission fields, such as BAM.
