"You were made for a mission. God is at work in the world, and he wants you to join him. This assignment is called your mission. God wants you to have both a ministry in the Body of Christ and a mission in the world. Your ministry is your service to believers, and your mission is your service to nonbelievers. Fulfilling your mission in the world is God’s fifth purpose in your life."

The following excerpt comes from a sermon given by Rev. Anthony Seel, Jr. of the St. Andrews Episcopal Church on April 4, 2004. What a fitting way to start the new year and the new decade knowing that WE were created in his love and are made for HIS mission!

Heavenly Father, we bow in your presence. May your Word be our rule, Your Spirit our teacher, and your greater glory our supreme concern, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

One of the popular television shows in our home is The Learning Channel’s Trading Spaces. The premise of the program is that two neighboring families are given 48 hours and $1,000 to make over a room in each other’s homes with the help of a professional designer and a construction team. Afterwards, each comes home to walk in with eyes closed for the climactic “reveal” of what the neighbors have done with, or to, the room. Happy homeowners shriek and jump about – others are not quite as effusive.There’s even an outtake DVD titled “They Hated It!” although the producers of Trading Spaces say that the percentage of those who hate their home makeovers is small. Even so, the truth is that external makeovers have a short shelf life.

This morning, we are going to look at eternal makeovers, the kind that happens inside us by the power of God through Jesus Christ. Secondly, we are going to look at the mission that God gives to all who have received Jesus Christ as their Savior and Lord.

We begin with verse 17 of our second reading.

v. 17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold the new has come.

If you’ve seen just the commercials for the weekday talk shows, you may have noticed that cosmetic makeovers are a staple for them. In addition to these regular segments on the talk shows, there are currently a dozen different “reality” makeover shows running on the tube. One program has taken the common makeover to another level. It is Fox Channel’s Ambush Makeover. Fox says,“Imagine walking down the street, minding your own business when a stranger comes up to you and offers you a complete makeover – new hairstyle, fantastic makeup, designer clothes…the works. The only catch: you must accept it right now, abandon whatever you are doing and run-off to be a queen or king for the day. Would you do it? Welcome to the unpredictable excitement of AMBUSH MAKEOVER.“In every episode, the AMBUSH MAKEOVER team travels all over the country, targeting unsuspecting “fashion victims” who are willing to drop everything to receive a once-in-a-lifetime makeover opportunity. Sometimes it’s spontaneous, while other times, the ambush has been set-up by a friend or family member. As soon as a potential participant says “yes,” he or she will be swept away into that city’s most prestigious salons where a team of fashion and beauty experts will work their magic. The viewers see it all as this “instant participant” is transformed into an instant beauty. Along the way, there will be fashion and beauty tips galore, and at the end of the day, the new – and hopefully improved – look will be revealed not only to the participants, but also to their friends and family.

Paul himself had experienced such an “ambush makeover” on the Damascus Road. In one blinding moment he was encountered by Christ and transformed into the boldest and widest reaching ambassador for Christ in the apostolic church. Christian history is replete with thousands of examples of people who were surprised by the offer of a new life through Jesus Christ and were made new by Him.For most of us the changes are more gradual. Through Jesus Christ, we are a new creation, but the work of Christ in us is generally slow and deliberate. Becoming a new creation is not instantaneous in all its’ effects. The spiritual makeover takes some time because the old sinful nature within us is so pervasive, and we cling to it so stubbornly. Through Christ, the old nature is declared of the past, even while God works in us, in cooperation with our minds, wills and emotions, to diminish the power of the old sinful nature over us.

사역 동정

1. 2019년 11월, 12월 – SfK는 미국 덴버, 아틀란타, 뉴욕, 로스앤젤레스를 포함한 여러개 도시를 방문하였습니다. 주목적은 SfK 사역의 현재 및 잠정적인 후원자들을 만나기 위함이었습니다. 하나님께서 후원 베이스를 확장해주셔서 하나님 나라가 더 진보되고 SfK 사역이 확장될 수 있도록 기도해 주시기 바랍니다.

2. 2019년 12월 – SfK가 헤세드 캄보디아 리더십을 위해서 훈련하는 기간을 가졌습니다. 헤세드 캄보디아 리더십은 회사의 비전, 미션, 핵심 가치를 새로이 확정했고 이들은 헤세드 네트워크 내에 있는 다른 회사들에게도 영향을 미칠 것입니다. 새로 확정된 비전, 미션, 핵심가치가 이 회사의 장기적 목적을 위한 기초를 강화할 수 있도록 기도해 주시기 바랍니다.

3. 2019년 12월 – SfK Life 이사회가 2019년 한해를 마감하는 모임으로 열렸습니다. 이사회의 투자위원회에서는 탄자니아 아루시야에 있는 Glen Farm Africa 회사에 지분 투자를 승인했습니다.

4. Glen Farm Africa – 회사 등록이 아직 진행되고 있습니다. 지연되는 이유는 이름 등록이 지연되고 있기 때문입니다. 그러나 모든 자본 납입은 2020년 1월중에 완료될 예정입니다. 등록이 신속히 이뤄질 수 있도록 기도해 주시기 바랍니다.

5. 1040창(1040 Window)을 위한 Latinos (중남미인들)를 위한 훈련 - SfK에서는 미국에 있는 Vision 800 이라고 하는 선교단체와 라티노들을 훈련하는 사역에 합력하는데 원칙적으로 합의하였습니다. 훈련된 라티노들은 주로 1040창 지역으로 파송될 것입니다. 그 합력의 첫단계로 SfK에서는 2020년 동안에 Vision 800에서 실시하는 훈련 프로그램에 두번 정도 참여하여 BAM에 대한 훈련을 실시할 예정입니다. 새로 형성된 이 관계가 하나님의 나라를 위해서 열매를 맺을 수 있도록 기도해 주시기 바랍니다.

6. SfK Life와 SfK Korea를 포함한 SfK Network에 속한 대부분의 선교 기업들이 2020년 사업 및 사역계획을 작성하고 있습니다. 계획을 세우는 과정이 각 비즈니스의 리더십과 스태프들에게 유용한 열매를 맺을 수 있도록 기도해 주시기 바랍니다.

다가오는 일정과 기도 제목

2020년 1월 – 헤세드 캄보디아의 대표가 새로 부임했습니다. 새로 부임한 최석주 대표는 한국의 유명한 회사의 중역으로 은퇴한 뒤 캄보디아에 있는 Srolan Mango 라는 선교비즈니스를 창업부터 시작해서 성공적으로 키워 온 경력을 가지고 있습니다. 당분간은 최 대표가 Srolan Mango와 헤세드 캄보디아의 대표직을 겸직할 것입니다. 새로 부임한 헤세드 캄보디아의 대표가 SfK Missional Business Community의 중요한 멤버인 헤세드 캄보디아의 리더십을 세우고 효과적인 선교적 기업 모델을 만들어 나갈 수 있도록 기도해 주시기 바랍니다.

2020년 2월 – 스리랑카 콜롬보. SfK에서는 불교 국가인 스리랑카를 탐색할 기회를 가질 것입니다. SfK가 가난한 나라이자 미전도국인 스리랑카에서 사역하도록 주님께서 부르시는지 하나님이 주시는 분별력을 가지고 잘 판단하고 결정할 수 있도록 기도해 주시기 바랍니다.

2020년 2월 - 1주일간 진행될 Focused Training (FT)이 2020년 2월 중에 전략적으로 중요한 네팔과 기독교인들이 핍박을 받는 남아시아의 한 국가에서 개최될 예정입니다. 새로 실시 되는 이 훈련 방법이 두 나라에 있는 잠정적인 두개의 선교 기업들에게 유익을 가져다 줄 수 있도록 기도해 주시기 바랍니다.

2020년 2월 – 조지아 트빌리시. SfK에서 기업가 기초훈련을 수료한 한 사업가가 조지아에서 비즈니스를 시작하기 전에 설립과 운영을 위한 로드맵을 함께 상의하기 위해서 SfK 가 2월 중에 방문할 예정입니다. 짧은 방문이지만 열매를 맺을 수 있도록 기도해 주시기 바랍니다.

2020년 4월 – 이집트 카이로. SfK 가 4월중 이집트 카이로를 방문해 SfK에서 실시한 기업가 기초 훈련 (SfK Boot Camp Training)을 수료한 한 기업가와 몇 일동안 함께 시간을 보낼 예정입니다. 이 선교 기업가는 전략적으로 중요한 이 지역에서 비즈니스를 시작했습니다. 이번 방문이 하나님의 나라를 위해서 시너지를 만들어 낼 수 있는 효과적인 전략과 방법들이 창출될 수 있도록 기도해 주시기 바랍니다.
2020년 4월, 5월 – BAM Congress가 7년만에 태국 좀티엔에서 4월 29일부터 5월 3일까지 개최됩니다. BAM 을 실질적으로 경영하시는 BAMer들, BAM생태계에 종사하시는 분들 등이 모여 서로를 격려하고 서로의 역량을 강화하는 자리가 될 것입니다. 흔치 않은 이번 회의에 참여하기를 원하시면 클릭하여 내용을 참조하기 바랍니다.
